Gradient Based Estimation of Equivalent Bandwidth in Satellite Communications with Loss and Delay Constraints
نویسندگان
چکیده
Equivalent bandwidth (EqB) is defined as the minimum service rate to be provided to a traffic buffer to guarantee a certain degree of Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of objective parameters (packet loss, delay, jitter). EqB techniques are usually obtained analytically for homogeneous traffic trunks, with respect to a single QoS constraint. Modern network solutions (e.g., DiffServ edge routers, wireless access points, for example WiMAX or satellite access technologies) often imply the aggregation of service classes with different QoS constraints, thus generating heterogeneous trunks from the point of view of both traffic sources and QoS requirements. This situation leads to the need to develop new equivalent bandwidth techniques so as to match heterogeneity. In this view, the paper firstly introduces the key elements of the access architectures where QoS meets heterogeneity. The Satellite Independent – Service Access Point, currently under study within the European Telecommunications Standardization Institute, is taken as technological reference. Then, a novel EqB algorithm is developed to “optimally” match heterogeneity together with the joint control of loss and delay performance metrics. The proposed methodology is tested through real fading and traffic traces to highlight its effectiveness to support bandwidth dimensioning in heterogeneous conditions.

Fractal Bandpass Filter Using Y-shaped Dual-Mode Resonator for C-Band Receiver (Research Note)
In this study, a fractal, Y-shaped dual-mode resonator bandpass filter (BPF) with input-output cross-coupling is introduced. A parallel-coupling feed structure with a cross coupling has been used to generate two transmission zeroes (TZs) near the lower and upper cutoff frequency that can effectively improve the passband edge selectivity. Also, a fractal shaped based on conventional diamond and ...
متن کاملJointly power and bandwidth allocation for a heterogeneous satellite network
Due to lack of resources such as transmission power and bandwidth in satellite systems, resource allocation problem is a very important challenge. Nowadays, new heterogeneous network includes one or more satellites besides terrestrial infrastructure, so that it is considered that each satellite has multi-beam to increase capacity. This type of structure is suitable for a new generation of commu...

Computation offloading is known to be among the effective solutions of running heavy applications on smart mobile devices. However, irregular changes of a mobile data rate have direct impacts on code partitioning when offloading is in progress. It is believed that once a rate-adaptive partitioning performed, the replication of such substantial processes due to bandwidth fluctuation can be avoid...

Propagation of radio occultation (RO) signals through the lower troposphere results in high phase acceleration and low signal to noise ratio signal. The excess Doppler estimation accuracy in lower troposphere is very important in receiving RO signals which can be estimated by sliding window spectral analysis. To do this, various frequency estimation methods such as MUSIC and ESPRIT can be adopt...
متن کاملEstimation and Analysis of Precipitable Water Vapor Using GPS Data and Satellite Altimeter
Determination of water vapor in the atmosphere plays an important role in forecasting weather conditions and precipitation studies. For this reason, it is very important to study the tropospheric delay, especially the wet component, which is due to the presence of water vapor in the atmosphere. In this paper, the amount of water vapor was estimated by altimeter satellite radiometer and GPS data...
